Brief Update & Pic

I’ve been a little down that last couple weeks because I’ve realized that I’m going to have to start my novel completely from scratch. I was having trouble getting the idea to work as one cohesive piece, so I began rethinking it. Well, the more I did that, the more I realized what I was doing now just won’t work. This sucks. But it’s been a good learning experience. Now I’m just trying to get my thoughts in order so I know where to start.

Since this post is boring, I thought I’d spice it up with a picture of one of my girl crushes: Jennifer Fucking Lawrence.

  1. Odds are that the next rewrite will feel like flying. It will be smooth and words will just flow from your fingers.
    Why?
-Well, I’ve had it happen. Killed a novel and rewrote.
-The new assumptions, characters, plots and locations have been tested and found true. You are undoubtedly closer to writing from your true self and so can just let it flow rather than fighting for each sentence..

    So, Relax Don’t Worry.

    All the best
    Terry

  2. The best of luck with your re-write. Best, Kevin

  3. I know your pain.

The novel I am finishing was originally going to be finished in February, but due to a huge oversight and my computer
crashing, I lost almost 3/4 of my work.

It’s been a long road back, but I have managed to recapture most of what I had lost. The rest will come back to life in the next, and final, installment of my series.

I think Terry hit the nail on the head, and because I too have had to go back to the old drawing board, I’m confident that you’ll be able to recapture yours as well, new style and all. It’s amazing how, once you get back into the thick of it, the words begin to pour from your soul to your fingertips. πŸ™‚

    Happy writing,
    R.

  4. I had problems coming up with my novel until I participated in April NaNoWriMo, then the words just flowed like crazy. Thanks for the like by the way

  5. I’m more of a Poet – though I have written lots of short stories and a couple of novellas – so I’m not much of a novelist. That said perhaps a good way to get started writing your novel might be to write a series of short stories that could be tied into each other and later expended into the novel format. That’s how I wrote both of my novellas a series of short stories along a continuing theme. πŸ™‚

  6. I hope the sexy muses are singing their hearts out for you since you posted. Congratulations for taking the terrifically brave step of cutting your losses, which aren’t really losses anyway, right? Your writing will be stronger for it. It’s so, so difficult to let it go and reconceptualize. But, you’ve accomplished the most difficult part. And, who knows? Keep that baby around. It may turn into something spectacular later. Best wishes!
